Agricultural contractor K.J.E van der Slot from Noordwijkerhout has recently started using a tractor bumper at the front of its tractor. Thanks to this special bumper, Van der Slot is making an active contribution to road safety in the Bollenstreek region. The tractor bumpers are equipped with contour lighting, reflectors, and clear width markings. This allows other road users to recognize tractors more quickly in traffic and thus better anticipate wider vehicles.

 

More time to make room for passing

The contracting company has already had many positive experiences with the tractor bumper. Driver Wilko Klinkenberg: “I notice that road users recognize my tractor much earlier on the road. Approaching cars slow down sooner and take us into account. This gives us more time to make room so that we can pass each other safely.”

Increasing visibility

Cumela Nederland, the trade association for entrepreneurs in green, soil, and infrastructure, has conducted various practical tests with bumpers in recent years. These tests showed that tractor bumpers increase the visibility of tractors and that other road users are more sympathetic towards agricultural traffic.

Tractor bumpers have a preventive function: they prevent accidents. But they also reduce damage in the event of a collision.

Subsidy for Cumela Nederland members

To encourage the use of tractor bumpers in the sector, Cumela Nederland is subsidizing 500 bumpers purchased by its members or driving school owners.
