Toll Germany 2019 – Maut to become significantly more expensive
Yesterday, Germany decided to significantly increase tolls for trucks from January 1, 2019. Toll rates will rise by 20 to 60 percent. This increase will clearly have an impact on transport rates to Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and Italy.
For one of the cleanest trucks available, a Euro VI truck with four axles, the rate will increase by 60 percent to 0.187 per kilometer. For the truck most commonly used by Dutch transporters, a vehicle with a Euro V engine and five axles, the rate will increase by 27 percent.
Duitse regering
German transport organizations indicate that this enormous increase is virtually impossible to contest. First of all, the German government is facing significant deficits for the maintenance and construction of the road network. Secondly, for 2019 (in accordance with European legislation), external costs for noise pollution have been included in these new rates, in addition to the existing environmental tax. Dutch transport companies are therefore footing the bill for the German government's deficits with these increases. On a positive note, Germany is investing all of the additional revenue in infrastructure.
